Hester du Plessis

Hester has relocated to Tauranga with her husband, an emergency room physician, who was recently offered a role in the area. 

An internationally renowned optometrist, Hester du Plessis was recruited specifically for OCULA from the leading South African practice - The Oculus - for her strong background in clinical work. With a passion for eye disease Hester comes with extensive experience at the forefront of eye disease management and will be focusing on glaucoma, macular degeneration and anterior (front-of-eye) diseases.

Warm, caring and highly personable Hester is continually striving for excellence, and as such is completing a post-graduate diploma in Ocular Therapeutics (basically, a fancy way of saying eye disease management). This will allow her to not only diagnose, but also treat and manage a number of eye diseases.  She’ll also be working on forging stronger relationships with private ophthalmologists and the SDHB, to serve you as a patient better.

Hester is at the top of her game when it comes to eyecare and this - coupled with her genuine love of people - means when you book in with her you’ll be secure in the knowledge that you’re in the very best of hands.
